Daniel Repp (he/him) has been an instructor at BAAY since the fall of 2023. He primarily works with the “mini junior” and “mega junior” cohorts, spanning from 3rd to 8th grade. Daniel was first connected with the organization when BAAY reached out looking for someone to teach improv.
“The improv and sketch classes usually look like some form of warm-up, some form of lesson, and then either writing sketches if it’s a sketch class or just learning and practicing games if it’s an improv class,” said Daniel.
One of Daniel’s memorable BAAY moments came during a sketch comedy performance when the students convinced him to join them on the stage.
“For the first time in my teaching career, they convinced me against my better judgment to appear in one of the sketches,” said Daniel. “It was a fun time.”
Moments like these remind Daniel of the strong relationships he builds with his students and the playful, supportive atmosphere that makes BAAY so special. One of Daniel’s favorite parts of teaching is watching students grow throughout their time at BAAY.
“At first, a lot of kids are excited to share their own ideas,” Daniel said. “Then, you start to see a shift where they’re just as excited to hear what someone else has to say.”
Daniel said seeing that transformation, from individual excitement to genuine collaboration, is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching. For him, these moments capture what makes BAAY such a rewarding place to learn and create.
