BAAY in the Schools
BAAY in the Schools is a division of Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth. This program is committed to helping all schools provide affordable arts education to their students. We believe the arts are a vital component of learning and personal growth. BAAY provides quality programming in various elementary and middle schools throughout Whatcom County. Classes include theatre, improv, visual arts, guitar, dance, and more!
Registration
Please check your school’s 6Crickets page to see what BAAY classes are offered at your school! To view BAAY’s current list of classes for homeschoolers, click here.
Scheduling
BAAY will manage all administrative aspects of the program and we only ask that the schools provide the space in which to hold the classes. Each subject is usually offered once a week. However, classes may vary depending on the needs of each individual school.
Tuition
Students can participate in our programs at an affordable cost! BAAY in the Schools tuition is approximately $10 per hour, plus any necessary materials or supply rental fees for the class.
Financial Assistance
As part of our commitment to equity and access, BAAY is proud to offer both partial and full tuition assistance to students in need. We believe every child has a right to an arts-infused education! Click here for financial aid information.
Student and Community Code of Conduct
Student and Community Code of Conduct
(Revised 2/2026)
At BAAY, everything we do is built on a foundation of respect – respect for ourselves, for one another, for the work that we do, and for the space that we share. We strive to create an educational environment that is professional, ethical, and supportive of the growth of our students, both as artists and as community members. To that end, we ask that students and families review BAAY’s Code of Conduct prior to enrollment.
For Students
We expect that students will approach their work at BAAY with dedication and focus, as well as with respect for staff and for their fellow students. Students at BAAY are expected to:
- Attend all scheduled classes/rehearsals, unless prior arrangement is made with staff
- Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to focus in classes/rehearsals
- Put away cell phones and wireless devices and refrain from using them in class, unless special permission is granted by staff
- Wear appropriate clothing that allows for comfortable participation in class and is free of swearing, crude statements, and references to illegal substances
- Treat staff and your fellow students with courtesy and respect
- Refrain from taking photos/videos of staff or your fellow students
- Respect the physical space of your BAAY program by cleaning up after yourself and helping to reset the space after class
- Communicate with your instructors and classmates about your personal and/or physical boundaries, and respect other people’s boundaries
- Never touch another person without their permission
- Be mindful of nonverbal boundary-crossing, such as intrusive staring, leering, or creating an environment where others feel uncomfortable or self-conscious
- Look for opportunities to support and encourage your peers
- Do not initiate or participate in gossip
- Remain onsite for your BAAY program and do not leave except by written parental permission or verbal consent of the lead instructor
- Foster a culture of support and encouragement among your peers, rather than one of competition
For Parents & Caregivers
Children learn first by emulating the adults around them. As educators, we ask that everyone in the BAAY community strive to model behavior that fosters a culture of integrity, appreciation, and mutual respect.
- For the safety and respect of our community, we ask that guardians refrain from taking photos or videos of students during BAAY programs.
Addressing Code of Conduct Violations
We believe that disciplinary issues can be an opportunity for growth and increased understanding. Our goal is to address and resolve Code of Conduct violations swiftly and fairly, through clear, direct, open and supportive communication with students and, when appropriate, their families.
- In most instances, disruptive behavior will be addressed by the lead instructor of the program. Persistent or serious violations may be referred to the Artistic Director.
- Guardians may be helpful by reporting any potentially disruptive behavior to appropriate BAAY staff. Anonymous reports can be made at baay.org/report. Please refrain from taking disciplinary action with any BAAY student other than your own child.
- In instances where constructive resolution is not possible, BAAY reserves the right to terminate or exclude anyone from our programs and facility for violating our Code of Conduct, without notice or warnings.
We welcome your feedback about BAAY’s Student and Community Code of Conduct. Please refer any questions, comments, or concerns to director@baay.org.
Late Pick-Up Policy
Following the end of each BAAY class in the schools, parents can be charged for late pick-ups. Instructors are not otherwise compensated for this time, so it is important that they collect funds for childcare. The late fee policy is outlined as follows:
- At the 10-minute late mark, there is a $5 fee and $1 for every additional minute.
- If you are going to be more than 20 minutes late, please ask someone else on your child’s authorized guardian list to pick them up. In the event of an emergency, please inform the instructor of the situation as soon as possible and they will determine if the late pick-up policy applies.
- If your child is not picked up within the first 30 minutes of the class end time, there may be the consideration of removing your child from the program.
- At the 10-minute late mark, the instructor will ask the pick-up person to fill out a late-fee form, and BAAY admin will get in touch with the family about payment.
By filling out your child’s registration form for the class, you are agreeing to these terms. For any questions or concerns, feel free to contact director@baay.org.
